It's not actually cosplay or anything. It's more like that feeling of wanting to put on the silly costume of one of your heros from your chieldhood, like a disney princess or a super hero.
I learned very quickly that unless you're quite careful about your choice when doing this WITH people you know, it can go badly wrong. Or at least gets misinterpreted.
Abandon all ideas of idol worshipping cosplay and go for the generic type costume every time (this isn't to say you shouldn't put effort into it though; I managed to make an excellent greasy hair-rocker outfit after forcing myself to abandon dressing up as *insert obscure cartoon character here* for an 80s party) ... you're not doing it for yourself after all but to amuse your friends, and if they don't get the obscure joke, it's wasted.
And I highly recommend reading my comics on Tapastic. It has all my post-comic commments that I don't publish here, which are sometimes amusing, as well as a great comment section for readers.
